Landlords Investing In New Boilers To Boost Energy Efficiency

New Legislation

Earlier this year, the UK introduced new legislation which means that all rental properties in the country now have to meet a minimum energy efficiency standard of E.

There was a lot of publicity in the run-up to the introduction of the new legislation to help landlords prepare for the changes. Now, research conducted by Paragon has revealed that installing a new boiler was the most popular upgrade made by landlords, Mortgage Strategy reported.

According to the research, 39 per cent of landlords said they’d replace the boilers in one or more of their rental properties.

Most Popular Change

The next Change was to invest in new windows, which 33 per cent of landlords said they had done.

John Heron, Paragon director of mortgages, said that the private rented sector (PRS) in the country had made “significant progress” where energy efficiency was concerned in recent years.

He added: “Landlords continue to prioritize investment that will reduce energy consumption and keep costs low for their tenants.”

However, despite the strides made in the PRS and among homeowners, the UK is going to miss its target to upgrade all fuel-poor families’ homes to a minimum rating of C by 2030, Edie.net reported.

The news provider cited research from think tank IPPR, which cited the slow pace of “deployment of energy efficiency measures” as one of the main reasons why the government will fall short of meeting its target.
